Newcomer Is Leveling Up.

We just announced that we’re on track to generate more than $1 million in profit off of more than $2 million in revenue this year. We have more than 100,000 free subscribers and host top insider AI summits (you can read our recent newsletter post talking about this here).

We’ve built a must read-newsletter among venture capitalists and startup founders and the top insider artificial intelligence events. We’re expanding our team, adding new conferences, and ready to professionalize our sales efforts.

Your core responsibility is to lead our sales process from start to finish. There are two main parts of our sponsorship business:

  1. Traditional newsletter ad placements in our weekly newsletter (and increasingly, our podcast)
  2. High-dollar sponsorships for our invite-only founder/investor events like the Cerebral Valley AI Summit

As our first sales hire, you will be a pivotal member of the early team, working closely with the CEO and Business Lead to develop and execute our go-to-market strategy and scale our revenue through closing deals and building strategic partnerships with tech companies, VCs, and the broader startup ecosystem.

Responsibilities Include:

You will focus on winning new business for Newcomer, and own the entire sales cycle including prospecting, pitching, negotiating, closing, upselling, and renewing.

You will source deals and build meaningful relationships with business leaders and marketing executives at top tech companies, VCs, and the agencies that support them.

You will be the face of Newcomer in the market and at networking events and industry events (conferences, dinners, etc).

You’ll consider our reputation in your interactions with sponsors, and think about our relationships with sponsors and partners in terms of the length of your career and lifetime of our company, not just winning the deal at hand.

You will be the frontline champion for our prospects and customers, actively collecting and sharing feedback from the market to inform product and packaging strategies and make our products even more compelling.

You will stay up to date on the marketing, media, VC, and AI landscapes and leverage that research for strategic prospecting; eventually, this will inform the initial framework for our Ideal Customer Profile.

You’ll sell new products for the first time at Newcomer without a playbook, like enterprise subscriptions to the newsletter, if that’s the best way for us to grow.

And beyond just being a seller, you’ll help us grow our product offerings with time by listening to the market and developing new products, events, and categories that create more opportunity for us to win together.

About You:

  • You have 3+ years B2B sales experience, with 1-2 years closing experience
  • You are comfortable navigating complex decision-making processes and handling five- to six-figure contracts
  • You have a proven track record of success in your career so far
  • You have exceptional written and oral communication skills
  • You are a resourceful self-starter who thrives in unstructured, fast-paced environments
  • You are a team player who prioritizes the success of the team
  • You are resilient and tenacious, without fear of failure
  • You have a growth mindset, constantly seeking to learn, improve, and teach
  • You have a keen interest in journalism, tech/VC and/or marketing/media (ideally all three!)
  • You have familiarity with baseline sales enablement tools (CRM, prospecting tools, outreach tools)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience selling sponsorships, advertising, media or marketing tech/solutions
  • Existing relationships with marketers at high-growth companies
  • Experience at a high-growth startup or venture capital firm
  • Experience or interest in creating client collateral (decks, one pagers, etc.)
  • Familiarity with common selling methodologies like MEDDIC
  • Based in either New York City or the San Francisco Bay Area
